They are all basic ingredients and you will make two
halves, then you can put a filling in between the two halves. This can
be anything you like, whatever delicacies you prefer. Perhaps cream and
cherries for a black forest gateaux type of dessert? Likewise, whether
or not you choose to ice the cake or put anything else on top is
entirely up to you. The final result does not need to be the prettiest
in the world; in this case it is, after all, the taste that matters.
